Regarding IRS Notice CP 14 -- Amount Due

IRS Notice CP 14 – Amount Due

As of June, the IRS had over 20 Million unopened pieces of mail. As a result they pre-populated notices for items which were not paid by July 15, 2020.

Did you receive a CP14 notice stating the IRS records show you filed your 2019 form 1040 with an amount owed and the IRS doesn’t show the payment made? If so, we recommend  you go to https://www.irs.gov/payments/view-your-tax-account and create an account to check your account balance and payment activity.

When creating your account you will be asked  for the following to confirm your identity:

1) Email address (they send a verification code)

2) Account number to one of the following (last 8 digits of a credit card, mortgage account number, student loan account number, a few other options)

3) Phone number (they text another verification code)

Once you’ve completed that, your account balance will be displayed on the screen.

If the Online account still shows you owe, please contact our office and we can help you prepare a response to the IRS to reflect the payments made and the accurate account balance.
